A crater lake, a canoe and a forest, twenty minutes from town

Lake Duluti sits in a small volcanic crater at Tengeru, east of Arusha on the road to Moshi, with forest reserve all the way round its rim. You paddle it, walk around it, or both — and it fits the day you arrive or the day you leave.

Where it is

Lake Duluti lies in a volcanic crater at Tengeru, roughly 14 km east of Arusha town along the road towards Moshi and Kilimanjaro International Airport. The crater walls are forested and protected as a reserve, so the lake is enclosed, sheltered and still.

What you do there

Canoes go out onto the water, and the birdlife along the edge is the reward: cormorants drying their wings on dead branches, kingfishers, and fish eagles overhead. A footpath circles the rim through the forest, with monkeys in the canopy. Most visitors do both.

Who it suits

Anyone with half a day either side of a safari, families, and people who want to be on their feet after days in a vehicle. It is not a wildlife drive. It is a quiet morning or afternoon on the water and under the trees.

Fitting it in

Duluti lies between Arusha and the airport, so it works on the way in or out as well as on a free day in town. It pairs naturally with the coffee tour for a full day.

Do I need to know how to canoe?

No. The lake is small and calm, and you are not going far.

Can it be combined with the coffee tour?

Yes. Both are on the Arusha side and together they make a full day.

Is there a price?

It is charged separately from the safari. Ask us and we quote it with the rest of your trip.
