Arusha · Experience
The Cultural Heritage Centre
On the western edge of Arusha, a gallery and craft complex that gathers the art of the country in one place: carving, painting, beadwork and gemstones, in a building you will recognise from the road.
The building
It is hard to miss: a drum-shaped gallery with a shield and a spear rising beside it, and bronze wildlife on the lawn in front. The architecture is the first exhibit.
Inside
Galleries of carving from across the country, with painting, beadwork, textiles and a room of gemstones. The clip on this page was filmed in the carving gallery.
Why go first
It is the natural first hour of a day in Arusha. An hour here explains what you will see in the craft markets afterwards, and what is worth paying for.
Fitting it in
An arrival day, a departure day, or the day between a safari and a flight. It pairs with A Day in Arusha and with the Tanzanite Experience, which is also in town.

Questions
Questions, answered
How long do we spend there?
An hour is enough to see it; longer if you are buying. Ask us and we shape the day around it.
Can I buy there?
Yes. It is a gallery and a shop. Buying is never part of what we sell you.
Is there an entry fee?
Ask us. What the day includes is agreed with you when we build the itinerary.
