The Tanzanite Experience

Most visitors meet tanzanite across a counter on their last afternoon. Given half a day you can instead follow it from rough stone to cut gem, and understand what you are looking at before anyone quotes you a price.

The main international airport for northern Tanzania, on the road between Arusha and Moshi: roughly 45 km from Arusha and 35 km from Moshi, about an hour to either. Most long-haul arrivals land here, including the KLM and Ethiopian Airlines services.
Three things we will always tell you
Half a day in the crater is enough
The floor is small and the game is dense. After about five hours you are looking at the same animals from a different angle. We use the time saved elsewhere.
We do not sell six-day Machame
The seven-day version adds a night at altitude before summit night and success rates rise sharply with it. The cheaper version is cheaper because it works less often.
A river crossing cannot be guaranteed
The herds do not keep a calendar. Anyone who promises you a crossing on a fixed date is selling you something they cannot deliver.
