The route
Why this one
Lemosho starts further out and climbs more gradually. You pay for two extra days and you buy altitude adaptation, which is the only thing that reliably moves summit success. If budget allows one upgrade, make it this.

What happens, in order
Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa
Into the western forest. 2,100 m to 2,650 m.
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1
Onto the Shira Plateau. 2,650 m to 3,505 m.
Shira 1 to Shira 2
A short, deliberate day across the plateau. 3,505 m to 3,850 m.
Shira 2 to Lava Tower to Barranco
High to 4,600 m, sleep at 3,960 m.
Barranco to Karanga
The Barranco Wall and a short afternoon.
Karanga to Barafu
Base camp at 4,640 m.
Summit night, then down to Mweka
Midnight start, Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, then a long descent to 3,100 m.
Mweka Camp to the gate
Out through the forest.

Lemosho if you can spare the day and the budget — it is quieter and the acclimatisation profile is better. Machame if you cannot. Both are camping routes.
