Arusha to Tarangire
Two hours to the gate, then an afternoon among the baobabs. Tarangire holds the largest elephant population in the north.
Tarangire to Lake Manyara
A morning drive in Tarangire, then on to Manyara for the afternoon — groundwater forest, hippo pool and the escarpment.
Manyara to Ngorongoro
Climb to the crater rim through the farmland around Karatu. Afternoon at leisure with the crater below you.
Crater floor to Arusha
Descend at dawn for the game drive, climb out before lunch, Arusha by mid-afternoon.

Which month is best for this route?
June to October is dry and the game concentrates on water. January to March is green and quieter. April and May are the long rains — cheaper, and Tarangire in particular can be hard going.
Do we need a 4x4 for all of it?
